Over the years, I’ve built and rebuilt my relationship with routine.
As someone who teaches movement, breath, and body awareness for a living, you might assume I always have a consistent, grounded personal practice. But the truth? I’ve struggled with it more than most would imagine.
Life moves—and so have I.I’ve changed homes at least seven times in London alone. I’ve shifted countries, jobs, and ways of working. And now, as a family, we pendulum between three places—UK, Italy, and India.
Each new chapter brings growth and beauty, but also disruption. And with every transition, I’ve felt the friction of losing the rituals that help me feel steady and well.
Movement has always been my medicine, but it hasn’t always been easy to access. Even in seasons where movement was my main focus and profession, my personal practice would slip. I’d feel untethered—adrift.
Eventually, I realised that instead of waiting for the right conditions, I had to create something portable. Something that could move with me, hold me, and invite me back to myself.
That’s when I began to create what I now call my Sacred Space.
It’s not a room. It’s not about candles or perfection. It’s simply an empty floor space, roughly 68cm wide by 180cm long—the dimensions of a yoga mat. Whether I have the mat with me or not doesn’t matter. As long as I have that patch of space, I know I can return to myself.
Wherever I land—be it my parent's house, a hotel room, an Airbnb, a house in the countryside—I move things around to make space. That’s the first thing I do. I shift furniture, clear a corner, roll out a towel if needed. Once I’ve done that, I feel like I’ve arrived. Like I’ve claimed a little sanctuary inside the newness.
🧘 How to Create Your Sacred Space
Creating your Sacred Space is simple—but powerful. Start by finding a small patch of floor, about 68cm wide and 180cm long—the size of a yoga mat. It doesn’t have to be a formal practice space or even particularly quiet. What matters is that you clear it with intention.
Move aside furniture, roll back a rug, or lay down a towel. This becomes your space to arrive in, to breathe, to move, or simply to lie down and reconnect.
Light a candle if you like. Or open a window. Let it reflect what you need in that moment. And remember: it’s not about doing it “right”—it’s about making room for yourself, wherever you are.
This space is sacred because it’s yours. And it’s enough.
✨ Your Practice, Wherever You Are
To support you in actually using your Sacred Space this summer, I’ve created a free 6-day Summer Kit: A gentle, repeatable video series with breath, movement, and mindfulness practices you can follow from anywhere. Each day is around 10 minutes, designed to meet you where you are—physically and energetically.
I have filmed it last summer, when I was spending a few days in Croatia, with my son, mom and dad. Like always I needed to move, and I simply thought: hey, others might need this too!
Whether you’re traveling, in transition, or just embracing a more open summer rhythm, this kit is an invitation to stay gently connected—with your body, your breath, and yourself.
Let your Sacred Space become a quiet anchor in a moving world.
With love & gratitude,
Chiara
